"With the back to the wall," these individual design concepts could easily be overlooked these days. As a vertical section of the building, a wall structures the interior, organizes it into private and public areas, forms lines of sight and points of reference. Wails change the impression of the room and its volume; they elegantly guide visitors through the building or lead them into a dead end. In contrast to the facade that protects the building from influences of the weather, the inside wall enjoys the luxury of being configured freely. However, this freedom simultaneously demands a responsible approach to the design of wall surfaces: The quality of the room’s effects stands or falls with the walls since they have a fundamental influence on the atmosphere of a space. Furthermore, the walls determine the how people feel when they live within them.
