《不列颠昆虫志》是多诺万的博物学代表作之一，初版刊行于1792年，本书全十六卷共3520页，附有约500幅根据实体标本测量、描绘的精美彩图。和之前的《不列颠贝类志》一样多诺万与画师在设计绘制这些插画时，不仅仅是进行单体展示，而是根据分类并通过巧妙的构图，在每幅画中展现各类昆虫的实际大小比例、同一昆虫的生长变态各阶段，并往往将它们画进生活环境中。本次出版，据原书影印。

爱德华·多诺万（1768-1837），生于爱尔兰的科克，是伦敦林奈学会会员。1807年在伦敦设立博物学研究所，展示数百件动物标本与植物标本。对标本的研究帮助他出版了诸多负有盛名的博物学著作。1817年，他不得不关闭自己的研究所，将藏品拍卖抵债。去世时竟身无分文。著有《不列颠珍稀鸟类志》《不列颠贝类志》《中国昆虫志》（1798）和《印度昆虫志》等。
