耳鼻咽喉科学已经拓展到一个较广阔的范畴，它包括耳科学、鼻科学、咽科学、喉科学、气管食管病学、小儿耳鼻咽喉科学、耳鼻咽喉科变态反应学、头颈肿瘤外科学，并由此衍生出临床听力学、平衡科学、耳外科学、耳神经外科学、颅底外科学、鼻内镜外科学、喉显微外科学、嗓音与言语疾病科学、睡眠与呼吸障碍疾病科学、颌面整形重建外科学等三级学科。它还涵盖了人类的嗅觉、味觉、平衡感和听觉。作为一门学科，它与其他医学分支学科交叉融合，如过敏学和免疫学、内分泌学、消化病学、血液学、神经病学、神经外科、肿瘤学、眼科学、儿科学、整形和重建外科学、肺科学、放射肿瘤学、康复医学、风湿病学、胸外科学等。耳鼻咽喉科学己由原先较独立的学科逐步发展成为多元化专业的学科。
