本书以单元为编写线索，每单元设置2周的训练量，每周设置5～6次训练。第1周以“课时练”为主，第2周以“专题练”为主。“课时练”主要是以教材版块来划分训练次数，”专题练”以单词、短语、句型、语篇来划分训练次数。其中”默写自我检测”这一个版块不仅考查了学生的词汇量，而且培养了学生的默写习惯，为以后的学习打下了坚实的基础。
本书的练习既可在课堂上完成，也可用于课外作业。辅栏的订正栏、用时统计、家长签字三项内容，能够帮助师生及时反馈和纠正当天的默写情况。
