Each winning entry is displayed in full-color and is accompanied by complete information about designer, client, typography, and more. This year's volume also features the results of the Club's tenth annual type design competition, TDC2 2007, and includes a special index listing the principal typefaces used in the winners and the names of their designers.
The two Judges' Choice sections feature the winning entries that have been singled out as each judge's personal favorite; these pieces are accompanied not only by the judges' comments but also by statements from the designers about the creative process involved in their development. These components--along with Chairperson Statements by Graham Clifford and Dennis Pasternak--exemplify the enormous vitality of the typography profession today.
A special section contains the third TDC catalog, reproduced in its entirety, which was created in 1957 when the competition was first opened to entrants outside the Club. From 1955 to 1978, the competition catalog was produced as a relatively modest booklet. In ]979, after twenty-five years, the TDCAnnual became a book. That explains why this Annual is called Typography28 while this year's competition is called TDC53.
This year the TDC celebrated its sixtieth anniversary. As part of the festivities, the TDC honored Paula Scher with the TDC Medal. A special section of her award-winning work in twenty-two annuals, including this book, is featured in this annual.
