本书是近年来北京林业大学中国-加拿大国家公园联合实验室的研究成果集，通过系统探讨国际及中国国家公园的理念实践探索与绿色发展经验，回顾梳理国家公园发展的成就与挑战，为探索国家公园的中国化模式提供借鉴，有助于今后中国自然保护地体系的建设。全书共计22章，分为中英文两部分。英文部分以美国、加拿大、新西兰等国的国家公园发展概述为导引，从政策实践、预算财务、遗产保护、社区参与等处落笔，绘制了一幅异彩纷呈的国家公园画卷；重点关注南亚、拉丁美洲、北美洲等地区的保护地及国家公园在实现生物多样性保护、生态恢复治理以及参与生态旅游方面取得的宝贵经验。中文部分则从国家公园管理、国家公园建设、自然保护地绿色发展这三个角度出发，批判性地分析和比较了中外国家公园及自然保护地在社区管理、文化景观管理、游客监测、品牌增值等方面的相关概念、政策、法规和实践。
