1854年英文版《上海年鉴》由北华捷报馆编印，作为上海的地方性年鉴，此书由当时在上海的英国人编辑，在20世纪之前中国年鉴稀缺的情况下，为后人保留了研究当时上海半殖民地半封建社会情况的资料，弥足珍贵。本次出版函装二册，其中一册全文影印、原样复刻1854年版《上海年鉴》，另一本平装本是以《上海年鉴》为基础就相关上海史及近代史进行研究而撰著的文字合集，其中包括对该书节选部分文字进行选译的译文，方便中文读者探知年鉴内容，以及著名历史学者周振鹤、熊月之、朱华各位先生及弟子的相关导读及论文数篇，令读者能够深切体察当时上海所处的时代背景和社会情态，进一步了解该年鉴的价值所在。
