按照《大学英语教学指南（2020版）》的教学要求，本系列教程分为“基础篇”“提高篇”“发展篇”三个等级，难度递增。每个等级包含两册，“基础篇”侧重校园话题，“提高篇”侧重社会话题，“发展篇”侧重实践应用性较强的话题。本次修订每册分为八个单元，其中包括一个中国文化单元。
《应用型大学英语综合教程。发展篇。1》是其中一册，教材引领学生探索丰富多彩的世界多元文化，通过文化内涵丰富的选材、跨文化技巧讲解、中外文化差异对比、文化注释等内容，在知识、技能等方面多维度提高学生的跨文化交际能力。
