2008年7月，清华大学从境外抢救入藏了一批战国时期竹简，学界称之为“清华简”。清华简的内容多为早期的经史类典籍，其中除了可与《尚书》等传世古书对照的篇目外，更多的则是已失传两千年之久的前所未见的佚篇，对于准确认识先秦古籍的原貌、重建中国早期历史均有重要学术价值。清华简所带来的新知识以及对传统文化认识的更新，已经引起了海内外学术界以及社会各界的广泛关注，对中华优秀传统文化的传承传播与创新性发展具有重要的意义。
本书的主要内容是对清华简中见于《逸周书》或与之体裁相近篇目（《命训》《程寤》《皇门》《祭公》《保训》《封许之命》）的英译及背景知识介绍，同时对《逸周书》的文本流传情况提供了一些见解。主要读者为海外从事早期中国研究的学者以及对中国古代文明有兴趣的一般读者。
