The paintings by Robert Taylor of two of my ocean racing boats, the first and the second Morning Cloud, are among the great joys of my life.Painted some twenty years ago, they brilliantly recall for me that I won the Sydney to Hobart Race in 1969 in Morning Cloud I and captained the British Ocean Racing Team, which won the Admirals Cup against eighteen other international teams in 1971.
In these two paintings of mine, Robert Taylor has perfectly captured the many different aspects of ocean racing. There is first the accuracy with which he depicts the boat and its details, as well as the characteristics of the crew. There are the contrasting weather conditions in the two races in which the boats were fighting hard for success...
