Makoto Sei Watanabe belongs to that array of/apanese designers for whom architecture is the creation not only of spaces, but also and above all of meanings. Consequently, his works continually pass from functionality to aesthetics,from the calculated organization of structures to the evocation of deep ancestral memories.Convinced that the place for architecture is intrinsically urban, Watanabe sees in the dynamics of the city the premises of any possible project. His works, therefore - from museums to public lavatories, from collective spaces to urban plans - are based on a concept of continuous transformation whose image derives from mobile change, creating architectural landmarks that already herald the near future.
