内容 | 编辑推荐 French painter, who, with Pablo Picasso, originated cubism and the cubist style, to become one of the major figures of 20th-century art. 内容推荐 French- painter Georges Braque (1882-1963) was one of the great artistic pioneers of the twentieth century.Together with fellow artist and intimate friend Pablo Picasso, Braque is considered a founding father of the art movement known as Cubism, a term first used to describe the fragmented, "cubelike" forms found in many of his most innovative works. Sometimes referred to as an iconoclast,Braque was forever seeking new modes of expression. From his early allegiance to the colorful vitality of the Fauves, to his groundbreaking experiments with Analytic and Synthetic Cubism, Braque consistently pushed the boundaries of how space, form, and depth were perceived. In his efforts to focus more on the relationship between space and an object, and not on the object itself, Braque moved out of the physical realm of painting, creating a new pictorial domain in which forms were thought rather than felt. "For me," Braque explained, "objects exist only as far as their mutual harmonious relationships, as well as those between the objects and myself, are concerned." Some of his more inventive techniques included mixing pigment with sand and metal filings;simulating wood and marble textures; and creating compositions of pasted paper collage, known as papier colle. Though his creative output was interrupted by a tour of duty in World War I and a subsequent serious head injury, Braque did not hesitate to pick up his brushes and resume his stylistic experimentation. Throughout his career, Braque worked in many mediums, including sculpture, illustration, and graphics. This survey of Braque"s painting offers a selection of 71 full-color illustrations, encompassing all phases of his artistic maturity, and places him at the forefront of the early twentieth-century art scene as a founder of Cubism. |
