内容 | 编辑推荐 NORMAN ROCKWELL contains an informative text on the artist’s life and working methods, and over 80 color reproductions of his best and most beloved illustrations. 内容推荐 The foremost illustrator of twentiethcentury America, Norman Rockwell produced countless paintings for the Saturday Evening Post covers (1916 to 1963), Boys’ Life, Look and other magazines, advertisements, and such books as Tom Sawyer. He recorded the nation’s history, from Ben Franklin Signing the Decla. ration of Independence to Astronauts on the Moon, and commemorated its holidays in Post covers such as Christmas...Sing Merrilie and Home for Thanksgiving. His reassuring images of America at war focused on the home front, as in the "Willie Gillis G.I." series and The Four Freedoms. He also occasionally commented on the darker side of American life, as in The Problem We All Live With (1964) which deals with integration. Adept in portraying ordinary people in everyday situations, he captured the embarrassments and exhilarations of childhood, the awkwardness and bliss of courtship, and the exasperations and affections of family life. With an eye for detail, he chose just the right models, poses, and props to produce narrative genre scenes such as Saying Grace and Breaking Home Ties. His particular genius lay in his ability to make people identify with the characters and situations he depicted. His vision of America became the way millions of Americans saw themselves and their country. Perhaps Rockwell summed up his contribution best: "I showed the America I knew and observed to others who might not have noticed." NORMAN ROCKWELL contains an informative text on the artist’s life and working methods, and over 80 color reproductions of his best and most beloved illustrations. 目录 INTRODUCTION HUMAN INTEREST PEOPLE AND PLACES HISTORY AND HOLIDAYS PORTRAITS AND SOCIAL ISSUES LIST OF COLOR PLATES |
