中西雕塑分属两大文明体系。中国地处东亚大陆，高大的山脉、广袤的沙漠和浩瀚的海洋长期以来阻隔了她与其他文明的联系。虽然通过“丝绸之路”，东西方文明也曾一度产生过相互影响，但这种影响从来都不是直接的，在遥远的路途上，经过了太多的时空转译。唐玄奘历经千难万险，赴西天取经的故事，实可为中外文化交流的困难性提供例证。
