Palermo is one of many possible cities. A photographer of yesterday would have tried to unearth its identity still trusting in the descriptive force of photography and its ability to adhere to reality and narrate it.A photographer of today, as is Sandro Scalia, lets the images run over the complex identity of Palermo,conscious of the fact that photography is only a means by way of which to gather together scattered signs:the "imprints" of many things that present themselves to the vision of the photographer.

Sandro Scalia (Ragusa 1959), diplomato in fotografia alrUmanitaria di Milano e in decorazione alrAccademia di Belle Arti di Palermo, inizia nel 1988 a collaborare con riviste e case editrici. Dopo il lungo periodo trascorso a Milano, nel 1990 torna a vivere a Palermo.

In occasione dei "Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie" di Aries 1995, viene premiato per il suo lavoro L'occhio insolente alia Galerie d'Essai.

Nel 1996 vince il Premio Portfolio a "Modena Fotografia" e hello stesso anno cura, per il Bicentenario delrOrto Botanico di Palermo, la mostra ed il volume Ispirandosi alrOrto, fotografie dal 1870 al 1996.

E docente di Fotografia presso rAccademia di Belle Arti di Palermo. Ha esposto in numerose gallerie nazionali ed internazionali

Sandro Scalia (Ragusa 1959), took his Diploma in Photography in Milan at the Umanitaria and in Decoration at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo.After a long period in Milan he returned to live in Palermo in 1990.

At the "Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie" in Aries 1995, he won prize for his work L'occhio insolente at the Galerie d'Essai. In 1996 he won the Premio Portfolio in "Modena Fotografia". In the same year he set up the exhibition and edited the volume Ispirandosi alrOrto, fotografie dal 1870 al 1996 for the Bicentenary of the Botanical Garden of Palermo.

He currently holds the Chair of Photography at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo. He has exhibited in numerous national and international galleries.
