舒尔茨、罗宾逊、朱天曙主编的《中国书法(英文版)》从“书法史”的角度入手，分别从文字与书法、秦汉之间的书法、书法艺术自觉性、盛唐书法气象、帖学、碑学以及石上的书法——篆刻几个层面展开，在每一个层面选取最为重要和最具代表性的内容加以阐述，详略有当。并且，在对各层面内容进行具体阐述时，照顾到了“书法”这门艺术的特点，即在不断继承前人的基础上有所突破和发展。
