大宝马斯特李：有俩学位，

可找不到一个工作

“若诗”，是个很浪漫的名字，听着像女孩子，其实若诗就是睡在我隔壁房间的瘦高挑，一位弱不禁风的男室友，我们一同在海德里道28号租住了将近两年。

若诗姓李，他读了两硕士(MAsTER)，我们都喊他：DOUBLE MASTER(双硕士)，用故意夸张的中国式英语一说，就是：“大宝马斯特李”，或者“达宝马斯特李”。人家李若诗倒是从来不介意，管你叫他什么，包括“小李儿”他都应答。

“大宝马斯特李”修的是历史学和计算机程序设计两个毫不相关的学科，偏偏人家聪明又用功，都按时顺利拿到了学位。而且，他读的那个学院的历史学，在全欧洲曾经是排名第二的专业。但是，若诗在第一个硕士刚念到一半时就开始找工作，却一直找不到。其实，也不是真的没有一样工作可以做，是他，要求挺高，和国内的大学毕业生们遇到的情况相似，高不成来低不就。更何况，他还是个双料硕士，难免就有着双倍的希冀和盼望。

他提交了毕业论文后等成绩的时候，曾经有个机会，国内一家非常著名的博物馆招人，他专程飞回国应聘，之后却黯然地回了牛津。白老师问他情况如何?他只说自己做不了，收入太低。人家告诉他，刚开始的两年，每月工资大概只有两三千块人民币左右，这还算是多的呢，可是换算成英镑，只有二三百镑了。好干啥呀?

有了这些算计和比较，自然生出不少苦恼。

若诗在英国读书这三年至少花掉家里六七十万块人民币，每个月两千块钱人民币，他不吃不喝不交税，也要连续工作二十五年才能把父母给他花上的这六七十万赚回来，“这还没算不断涨的CPI呢”，大宝马斯特李说。若诗假期常到麦当劳打工，一个小时七英镑，如果纯粹算经济账，那家国内著名博物馆给他的薪水，还不如他留在英国每天到麦当劳做两个小时钟点工赚到的钱多，在老麦打工，还有吃有喝可以省两顿伙食费。

光说年轻人择业不要只看眼前，可是给的钱太少，若诗说：“吃饭穿衣都要算计够不够，甚至依然要厚脸皮跟爹妈伸手，哪里还会有胆量和力气隔着近视眼镜看什么远大前程呢?哎!”

按英国的物价指数来看，大宝马斯特李的期望值七百八百英镑实在不算高，不过是7000—8000块人民币一个月。可是哪里有那么容易找?博物馆馆长工资条上的数字都不知道是不是有这么多。可是，大宝马斯特李毕竟是个“double”马斯特呀，两个难道就不能赚两个的钱吗?哪怕一个半，或者一点二个，或者一点一个呢?李若诗好苦恼，他连一个也找不到!

真的始终找不到一个合适的工作!中国没有这行情，不管大城市小城市，外企内企，一个刚毕业的学生，真难找到这样的薪酬。不是没有，也有，肯定有，但肯定是非常少的行业，非常少的机会。

大宝马斯特李又开动脑筋在英国找工作，专门去伦敦的一家中国人开的旅行社应聘。旅行社的薪水当然远远超过7000块人民币一个月，但是这回倒是人家没有看上他，嫌他不够主动，说是做旅行社这一行的，首先就是要特别机灵善谈、会看眼色、跑跑颠颠、能说会道那都是基本功。可高高瘦瘦的大宝马斯特李总喜欢沉着一双眼皮子，我猜都能猜出他那副“不主动”的样子，挺像说相声的老先生马i立垂下眼皮时的表情。

这家旅行社其实主要是为中国来的客人提供服务的，或者说，就是英国当地的老乡地陪。多年以前主要是招粤语流利的，但是现在招人一定要招会讲普通话的，能说点粤语就更好，锦上添花。由此也能看出来自祖国大陆的各色游客的数量在骤增。而大宝马斯特李完全不会说粤语，虽然不能为应聘加……

This is the second book of the same name“Summer in Oxford”．written by Faye Wang，the Chinese writer who once studied film in Oxford for three years．She completed her first work Summer in Ox-ford I. which was published in the end of 2012．Because of the success of the first volume，the publisher asked her t0 write at leasttwo more books of the same name．

Faye is a journalist and reporter at the TV&Radio station in Tsing．tao City．In 2006，she won the China News Award(中国新闻奖)，the highest level news award for TV&Radi0 in China．Shealso works as a news editor and screenwriter for TV dramas．In this second volume，you can read more stories about the Chinese people Faye encountered during her stay in Oxford，some of whom were also featured in“Summer in Oxford，”．

For example，A Jian(阿健)is a second generation rich Chinese student from Mainland China who drives a Bentley to university ev-cry day．A Jian even lives in a very expensive villa by himself．Mr．Bai does not understand and says：“He is only a student!Why does he rent such an expensive house?He should pay more atten-tion to his studies!”But A Jian says that it is his life-style．Actual-ly，it is not only A Jian who pursues this kind of So—called life-style．A Jian just copies his family'S life-style in China．Some rich Chinese people work hard simply to earn more and more money．

How can they spend all the money they have already?It seems A Jian and a lot of people like him don't really have any idea．Weizhen He(何惟真)visited her husband，Mr．Bai，in Oxford．

She is a psychologist and has specialised in marriage counselling for many years．She hears a large number of sad stories from her pa-tients，who hope that she can cure them of their sadness．

Mr．Shubei Zhang(张树碑)，an academic，visited Oxford with his wife．In Summer in Oxford(，，)we find Zhang and his wife liv-ing close to Faye and her housemates．They often visited and chat- ted in the dining room．Because of some unhappy experiences，Mr．Zhang sued the landlady．However，finally he found out that the la-dy was not the real house owner…Mr．Zhang also found out that ayoung Chinese girl he met in the town might be someone's illegalsecond wife…To be honest，Mr．Zhang is always interested in thiskind of gossip．

Dr．Dong(冬博士)is one of Mr．Shubei Zhang's new house ma．tes．Dong came from Southern China and works as a PhD student ofbiology．Because Dong is quite busy，he has no time to go to thesupermarket．Zhang then buys some food and vegetables for Dongwhen he goes to the shops，but he always charges Dong extra．Dr．Dong is working for his supervisor who is a British citizen of JaDa-nese ancestry．Due to the complicated historical reasons．it seemsmost Chinese people don't like the Japanese．Mr．Zhang Shubeicalls Dong a traitor behind Dong'S back．

Ruoshi Lee(李若诗)is one of Faye'S housemates．He has two Masters degrees but is unable to find even one iob-either in Londonor China…Then he returned to 0xford…

A new housemate called Anina(阿尼娜)ioined Fave's householdfor a short time from Germany．Faye and the other people living inthe house sometimes spoke ill of her in Chinese，even when she wasnearby．They thought Anina did not know anything about China andChinese．However，finally，they discovered that Anina could Deakand understand Chinese very well…The housemates felt veryshamed and awkward…

A Fen(阿芬)，whose English name is Emily，is also a Chinesestudent from rich business family．She became friends with Fliss．aBritish student．The two girls have some different ideas about whata wedding ring means．For Fliss it is a symbol，while for A Fen it might be only a huge diamond…

Mayo(梅奥)worked to buy a second-hand bike for 100 pounds，and she finished working as soon as she earned the 100 Dounds．

However，Mayo's Chinese friends don't understand her．Thev work until they could not continue their jobs． It seems May0 worked for the bike(or what she wants)，but her Chinese friends work for money．They will work as longer as they can and get as more money as they could．That is to some extent a clear and interesting differ-ence between them．Perhaps they will have a lot of monev in hand．while Mayo will really have the thing she wants．

Jinghao(静好)sent Harry emails again afler several months．Har-ry was Jinghao'S tutor when Jinghao studied in Oxford．Thev seemed like each other but sometimes it is not very clear． It is strange that sometimes people might become closer because of long distance or gap．Harry did not feel even a little strange 0r surprise t0 receive her emails．He sometimes waited and he always believes that Jing-hao and he will meet up again somewhere someday…

Lao Zhang and Lao Mai(老章和老麦)were fellow students at Manchester University．Lao Zhang was a quite good student in Fi-nance while Lao Mai was not a good student．Like Ruoshi．Lao

Zhang could not find a job in China after completing his undergrad-uate courses with all‘A's．Then Lao Zhang returned to England and，fortunately，secured a job in Manchester．He hopes t0 studvfor a Masters degree in several years，when he saves some monev．Although Lao Mai is not as good a student as Lao Zhang，he could earn more money than Lao Zhang…Lao Mai sells things and carries out‘business deals' for Chinese students without a license…

One day in Oxford City Centre，Faye met a 54 year old female student called Dao Zi(稻子)，who came from Japan．In some Chi-nese people's mind some Japanese people are not really friendly for various historical reasons．However，Dao Zi is reallv a friendlv per-son．She taught Faye to make sushi．They visited some beautiful small towns together at the weekends． Even when Da0 Zi retumed toJapan after 6 months study in Oxford，she still kept in contact with Faye，sending her post cards that began“My Dearest friend…”   Faye's friend Zhang Yi—yun(意蕴)had no boyfriend until she was32．But she quickly married a Chinese man from a rich familv aftera train trip in London．They returned to China together．In China．they have nice ears，beautiful villas，and a lot of monev…She doesnot need to go out for work and only takes care of their children．But it seems Yi。yun is sometimes not very happy，even very unhap-PY．Her husband'S parents want a grandson while Yi-vun and herhusband have three daughters…

Mark(马克)，a new friend，is kind of Maths genius．Mark'S par-ents deliver sermons，mainly preaching to the Chinese people in Oxford．Mark loves Maths So much．He says he forgets everything when he is studying or thinking about Maths．It appears that he is never concerned about anything except Maths．On the contrary，some scholars—including Chinese scholars are more utilitarian．Some people，especially some Chinese people，nowadays never get what they want and always want more．Maybe，people will be more hap-PY and wealthy if we are much simpler like Mark．

Mrs．Chen(陈太太李甜樱)completed her PhD study in biology at Oxford University．She returned to China to open her new busi-ness，because of China's rapid development．She is an ambitious lady in turbulent times．However，Mr．Chen is not ambitious and has never pretended to be．So Mr．Chen and Mrs．Chen had sever-al‘discussions'．They both agreed that she should remain in China while he visits the UK for a year．Mr Chen could still keep his old life—style while Mrs Chen would have time to develop her business and avoid bankruptcy……
