本书为了全面而客观地反映和评价中国的系统功能语言学研究状况编写的。编者在本研究中采用多种途径收集语料和数据，其中有通过传统的图书馆研究(文献分析)获取的现有文献资料，还有通过问卷调查、访谈收集的比较具有代表性和权威性的第一手资料。结合和比对这3种不同方式获得的研究数据，从多角度、多层次对过去30多年来系统功能语言学在中国功能语言学界的研究状况进行了探讨。研究内容主要包括3个方面：①中国系统功能语言学研究的现状。主要调查系统功能语言学在中国的3个发展阶段，以及每个阶段所涉及的研究领域和研究内容、出版物、学术会议和学术活动等；②分析和评估研究现状。通过分析出版物、问卷调查结果和访谈内容来评价现有的研究状况和中国系统功能语言学学者所做出的努力和贡献；③预测未来10年中国系统功能语言学研究的趋势。该书可供从事相关工作的人员作为参考用书使用。
