《GMDSS通信英语(基础知识与阅读第2版海船无线电人员考证培训教材)》对教材中过时或者存在争议的内容进行了更新或者重新编写。每章内容后面添加了生词表，这样更有利于教师授课和学员自学。生词表中标注了小黑点符号的单词为习题中的生词，其他选自课文部分。结合各地反馈情况，对教材第一部分的课后练习题进行了补充。这部分内容为原教材缺少，而考试中常见的知识点。

本次再版由大连海事大学李建民担任主编。

《GMDSS通信英语(基础知识与阅读第2版海船无线电人员考证培训教材)》是为了适应全球海上遇险与安全系统(GMDSS)的实施及近年来STCw、SOLAS公约的几次修正，专门为航海类院校、社会培训机构的航海专业学员编写的。本教材共包含两大部分内容：基础知识介绍和阅读理解。基础知识部分共包括6章内容：GMDSS系统简介、遇险紧急与安全通信、卫星通信系统、地面通信系统、海上安全信息和船舶报告系统等。6章内容从业务的角度由表及里，并结合ITU无线电规则、SOLAS公约、最新国际会议文件等资料，阐述了GMDSS原理及操作。为了深化GMDSS理论，每章的课后备有丰富的训练内容，使学员在学习的同时，知识面、知识深度得到进一步扩展。阅读理解包括从ITU无线电规则、SOLAS公约、最新国际会议文件、气象预报、气象警告、航行警告、设备操作安装说明书等各种文献摘录的短文100篇，每篇短文后面都备有针对性训练内容，以此强化学员的英语阅读能力。《GMDSS通信英语(基础知识与阅读第2版海船无线电人员考证培训教材)》既可以作为培训机构GMDSS业务(双语)及其英语培训教材，也可以作为航海专业GMDSS课程的指定教材，同时对于航运管理人员和其他有关人员在GMDSS学习、操作方面也具有一定的参考价值。
