Rena, an orphan girl who lives with her uncle's family, leaves home because of the cruelty of her cousin and aunt. She looks for a job in Athens, to no effect, until she reads an ad for chauffeurs. She cuts her hair, dresses as a man and gets the job. Her cousin's fiancé loses his fortune and decides to take leave of the "house with four stairs". Rena, however, is waiting for him to hand him over the keys to the house, which she has bought for the two of them with money inherited from her father
