This Soviet Ukrainian film telles the story of the head of Ukrainian People's Republic Petliura's betrayal of the Ukrainian people - 'selling' Ukraine to the leader of the Polish state Pilsudski; hence the title: the abbreviation PKP (Polske Koleje Panstwowe, meaning Polish National Railways) was decyphered by the people in the film as 'Pilsudskyi kupyv Petliuru' (Pilsudski has bought Petliura). 　　In this caricature of the forces rivaling with the Soviet power in the 1918 - early 1920s Natiliia Uzhvii had her first role in the cinema. The general of Ukrainian People's Army Iurii Tiutiunnyk, who returned to the Soviet Ukraine in 1923 plays himself (he also co-wrote the script of Dovzhenko's Zvenyhora). 　　The film was co-directed by Lundin and Stobovoi (Stabovoi). The latter made 'Two Days', which is considered one of the masterpieces of the Soviet silent cinema.
