Shecame from the Beecher family, a famous religious family, and is bestknown for her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, which depicts the harshconditions for enslaved African Americans. The book reached millions asa novel and play, and became influential in the United States and GreatBritain, energizing anti-slavery forces in the American North, whileprovoking widespread anger in the South.
