《新编大学英语》(第四版)是针对全国普通高等院校学生编写的一套立体化通用英语教材。教材设有1～3级，供1～2个学年使用。每一级别包含《综合教程》(配教师用书)、《视听说教程》(配教师用书)、《文化阅读教程》等。教材以立德树人为宗旨，以提升学生的语言综合运用能力为重点，兼顾思辨能力与跨文化交际能力的培养，为新时代高校师生提供全新的大学英语教与学的体验。
教材在设计编写过程中始终贯彻立德树人的根本任务，将知识传授、能力培养与价值塑造相结合。同时，教材注重体现中华优秀文化，引导学生坚定文化自信，培养家国情怀。
教材体现外语教学改革方向，充分吸收《中国英语能力等级量表》的研究成果，在提升学生各项语言技能的同时，引导他们学以致用，提高语言综合运用能力。
教材设计继续秉承“以学生为中心”的教学理念，并进一步丰富其内涵。主题与素材符合新时代大学生的认知和兴趣；练习活动契合学生的学习实际、发展期待和时代使命。
教材提供数字课程、微课视频、移动学习应用等丰富的多媒体、交互式、个性化教学资源；同时，依托科学高效的教学管理平台，联动课内课外、线上线下，支持教师智慧教学，方便学生自主学习。
