本教材是根据教育部颁布的最新职业教育教学大纲中公共英语教学要求编写而成的低起点教材。该教材强调“文化类课程的文化性、工具性、实践性和应用性”，“使学生掌握一定的英语基础知识和基本技能，培养学生在日常生活和职业场景中的英语应用能力”。本教材主要供全国各中等职业教育、五年制高等职业教育和高职高专及本科院校中入学时未学过英语或英语基础薄弱的学生使用，同时也适合各层次艺术类院校以及自学者使用。
