本画册通过115件珍贵、罕见的文物史料，说明了达赖喇嘛和班禅额尔德尼两大活佛转世系统的名号及其政治、宗教地位都是中央政府册封授予的；清代中叶形成了通过金瓶掣签认定达赖、班禅转世灵童的历史定制；历世达赖、班禅向中央政府敬献了大量贡品、礼品，表示拥戴、臣服。画册首次发表了包括1995年中华人民共和国国务院颁给十一世班禅额尔德尼的金册、金印，江泽民主席题赠扎什伦布寺“护国利民”金匾及十一世班禅敬献中央人民政府礼品在内的一大批珍贵图片，具有较高的学术价值和史料价值，有助于人们了解西藏的历史、现状和宗教状况。
