The Australian High Commission has long played a role in promoting Australia's cultural relations with Papua New Guinea. When we were approached by the National Gallery of Australia in 2001 to assist with their travelling exhibition Islands in the sun: prints by Indigenous artists of Australia and the Australasian region, which included prints by contemporary Papua New Guinean artists, we were delighted to offer support. The exhibition, which opened at the Papua New Guinea National Museum and Art Gallery (PNGMAG) in May 2002, was a great success.
