伍卓群先生是建国以来为我国偏微分方程学科发展做出重要贡献的前辈之一。他在数学这块科学园地上不知疲倦地辛勤耕耘了五十余载，并取得了丰硕的研究成果。

本书收录了伍卓群先生不同时期的代表作40篇，所选论文均紧密联系着数学物理中提出的一些重要问题。内容可分成两部分：第一部分是“文革”前从事研究的“常微分方程定性理论和奇摄动理论”以及“拟线性双曲守恒律理论”；第二部分是“文革”后从事研究的“拟线性退化抛物方程理论”。
