In 1842 Thackeray began his association with Punch magazine, in which his well-known The Snobs of Britain appeared in x846-7. Vanity Fair was serialized in the magazine with illustrations by the author between 1847 and 1848. His other works include Pendennis, The History of Henry Esmond, The Virginians and The Newcomes, as well as many volumes of Miscellanies of both prose and verse. In I860 he became the first editor of the Cornhill Magazine.Thackeray died suddenly on Christmas Eve 1863, having suffered from heart trouble for some time...
