《胡适英文文存》系列结集了胡适于20世纪20年代左右到60年代初之间撰写的英文文章或英文演讲，它们大多都曾发表于颇具影响的英文刊物上，并对当时的中国社会产生过重大影响。按主题分编为《中国文学与社会》、《中国哲学与思想史》和《民族危机与公共外交》三册，由普林斯顿大学东亚系教授周质平选编。

《胡适英文文存(1中国文学与社会)》结集胡适自1914年到1961年前后的重要英文论文及演讲28篇。全书横向以主题分类，可见胡适在这两方面主要的论点和贡献，纵向以发表时间为序编排，可见胡适于这两方面思想发展的脉络。
