亨利·沃尔特·贝茨(Henry Walter·Bates，1825—1892)，英国博物学家和探险家。出生于莱斯特一个纺织业主家庭。自幼热爱收集，喜欢研究昆虫。没有受过高等教育，小学毕业后一边当学徒一边自学。1848年，他和动物学家阿尔弗雷德·罗素·华莱士一起前往南美洲的亚马逊河流域进行科学考察，为大英博物馆收集哺乳动物、鸟类、昆虫和植物标本，一去就是十年。期间，他不但收集了大量生物标本，还发现一些昆虫为保护自身，演化出具有防御功能的拟态性状，对以达尔文为代表的演化论学说有一定的推动作用。为纪念他的发现，动物的这一性状被称为“贝茨拟态”。
