The first English-Canadian gay feature, WINTER KEPT US WARM is a touching exploration of the conflicted friendship between two University of Toronto students. “This low budget ($8,000) student-made film is another example of the several youth-oriented films of the early sixties - and one of the most subtle and accomplished. . . . Doug is a well-liked senior with an equally popular girlfriend. Peter is a shy freshman new to the big city. Peter and Doug become best friends and are soon going to concerts, drinking and playing in the snow together. When Doug brings Peter to a steam bath and washes his back, the friendship seems headed to a whole new level, at least in Doug's mind.
