图书 JOHN RAIMODI SCULPTOR
内容
编辑推荐

John Raimondi is arguably the most successful creator anywhere of public sculpture on a monumental scale, with works in twenty-seven states and several European countries. He is a visionary and pioneer in the use of color and advanced alloys in sculpture, a maverick who has always operated outside the art establishment. His sculpture ranges from pure abstraction to works that capture the essence of natural forms, birds and animals.   This magnificent book brings together Raimondi's finest sculpture in every scale, including both the public monuments and the works created for more intimate indoor and garden settings, along with a selection of his virtuoso drawings. William Corbett provides a detailed history of Raimondi's life, career, and important com-missions, while Sam Hunter presents a formal analysis of some of Raimondi's major pieces and positions him and his work in the context of recent art history.

Raimondi's primary purpose for each of his works has been to create a great, all-enveloping sculptural presence with mythic overtones that speaks to a multitude of viewers, using materials and techniques that continually push boundaries. But always form and myth are emphasized equally, always the sense of scale is exquisitely calibrated, and always the works manage to be at once lithe and muscular.

William Corbett has taught at Emerson College and Harvard University, as well as other universities. Zoland Books has published his memoir, Furthering My Education, his Philip Guston's Late Work: A Memoir, and several volumes of poetry. Graywolf Press has published his book of essays, New York Literary Lights.

Sam Hunter was most recently Professor of Art History at Princeton and Curator of Modern Art at Princeton University Museum. He earfier iaught at Brandeis, where he was also founding Director of theRose Art Museum, and served as Director of the Jewish Museum in New York and curator at the Museum of Modern Art, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art. He has written widely used textbooks on modern and American art, as well as monographs on major contemporary artists.
